Position Overview:
A Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for providing basic medical attention to patients and assessing their well-being as part of a larger medical team. Their duties include assessing patients in person and on the phone, may supervise other members of the healthcare team, recording a patient’s medical history, prescribing patient prescriptions, and performing minor medical procedures under provider direction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Taking and monitoring patient vital signs.
  • Observes, records, and reports changes in patient’s condition.
  • Preparing exam rooms by sanitizing equipment and stocking necessary supplies.
  • Facilitating communication between families and healthcare staff.
  • Assisting doctors, nurses, and other providers during appointments.
  • Providing medical advice within Practice guidelines via phone and in person.
  • Collecting, preparing, and reading in-house specimens and others for transport to the lab.
  • Monitoring patient status and test results.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • May supervise or give direction to other members of the healthcare team.

Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • One year of recent relevant experience (Preferred)
  • Current LPN (Required)
  • BLS Certification (Preferred)


Qualifications:
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care according to individual needs.
  • Must demonstrate an understanding of clinical risk.
  • Must demonstrate consistent professional conduct and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills with patients, staff, and other health care professionals.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems a plus.
  • Must be detail-oriented and highly organized.
  • Must be organized and manage time efficiently to assure patient comfort and satisfaction.


Skills and Knowledge:
  • Proven experience as an LPN or similar role.
  • Ability to undertake a variety of diverse care tasks and work in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Familiarity with health, safety, and sanitation standards and procedures.
  • Understanding of confidentiality obligations and nursing best practices.
  • Excellent knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Compassionate and able to handle stress.

Work is completed in a normal office environment and involves frequent contact with
staff, patients, and the public. The noise level is moderate. Work may be stressful at times. Contact may involve dealing with people who are angry or upset. This position may involve working at various community clinics and may require extended hours as needed.

Some standing is required as well as walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching,
crawling, stretching, and climbing stairs. Keyboard, telephone, and other medical and office equipment. The ability to observe details at close range and communicate information and ideas so others will understand. It is necessary to view and type on computer screens for long periods and work in an environment that can be very stressful. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
